Outbound Student 2006-2007- Alex Xeros.
Since 1927, students and host families all over the world
have had their horizons broadened and their lives enriched by the
generosity of Rotary's Youth Exchange program. Administered by
Rotary clubs, districts and multidistrict groups, the program today
involves more than 82 countries and over 8,000 students each year. All
students are ambassadors of the Rotary club that sponsored them and of
their country. They have a wonderful opportunity to learn new cultures,
advance their education, meet new friends, learn the language of the host
country and promote goodwill.
Each year, Rotary Club of Baker city sponsors an inbound
student and an outbound student as part of Rotary International's student
exchange program.
Alex
Xeros of Baker City is our Rotary outbound student for the 2006-2007
year. Alex has been attending local Rotary club meetings for the
last year and has been preparing himself for this adventure. He
arrived in Blagoveschensk Russia, a
city of 220,000 in far-eastern Russia, on September 4, 2006 and is busy at
work with language skills, education, and making new friends.
Information
Alex arrived home July 13, 2007.

Pavel
"Pasha" Shiverskika our inbound exchange student
arrived in Baker city on September 23, 2006 and is attending
Baker High School. He attended our weekly Rotary meetings and in
November gave us a presentation on his home town of Irkutsk, located
in Siberia. Yes, he is very used to cold weather. Moving from
a population of 600,000 to a town of 10,000 must have been quite a shock.
Information
Pasha returned to Russia in mid April 2007 for college entrance exams.
His last meeting was April 9th and the club presented him with $250 from
member donations and club funds. We hope to see him back in
Baker City for a visit in the future.
